Ontario Ministry of Transportation - Bill 73

Child Booster Seats and Child Restraints
Beginning September 2005:

Children under the age of eight years, who weigh between 40 and 80 pounds (18 to 36 kgs) and having a standing height of less than 4'9"(145 cm) will be required to be properly secured in an appropriate booster seat while riding in a vehicle.
Child restraints and booster seats for infants, toddlers and booster age children must be used by baby sitters and grandparents as well as primary caregivers. Some exemptions still apply for taxi cabs, transit buses and school buses, as well as out of province plated vehicles.
The penalty is three demerit points for not complying with the law.
